Youth Train in Trades

SkilledTradesBC and the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care (ECC) have partnered to provide funding for high school students to complete their technical trades training while still in school.

Through this initiative, students can earn credits toward their high school diploma and complete at least one level of technical training by participating in trades classes offered at local high schools, post-secondary institutions, or SkilledTradesBC-certified training providers.

The Northwest Trades & Employment Training Centre (NTETC – School District 82) collaborates with Coast Mountains College (CMTN) and the Piping Industry College (PIC) to deliver this dual credit program. To successfully pass a trades program, students must achieve a minimum of 70%. However, the high school credit portion of the program requires only a 50% pass rate.

Tuition is covered by the School District, but students are responsible for the cost of classroom supplies (including books), tools, and required personal protective equipment (PPE). Students are also responsible for travel to college and accommodations if required.
