The Discovery Program is a hands-on, engaging initiative for students in Kindergarten through Grade 9, designed to spark interest in the trades and support future career choices. Through interactive, project-based activities, Discovery gives students early exposure to tools, teamwork, and real-world problem solving — often for the first time.
By creating positive trade experiences in a fun, inclusive environment, Discovery:
- Highlights the diverse career paths in the local trades sector
- Breaks down gender stereotypes and encourages underrepresented groups
- Involves families, teachers, and community partners in learning
- Builds confidence and essential life skills like perseverance, collaboration, and creativity
Discovery levels the playing field, especially for students without role models in the trades or access to tools at home. It’s more than just an introduction to trades — it’s about empowering youth with experiences that shape their future decisions.
Integrated into the school curriculum, the program consistently achieves over 98% student engagement, demonstrating its impact on both education and workforce exploration. Programs like Discovery are increasingly supported across BC by organizations such as BCCWITT, the Construction Foundation of BC, BC Tradeswomen Society, and SkilledTradesBC.
“Discovery doesn’t just teach trades — it builds futures.”
